Holiday Card Etiquette

Holiday cards can be one of the most effective ways for small business owners to build loyalty with their clientele.  There are, however, a few things to keep in mind to make sure the holiday cards work for you and don’t go unnoticed.

Since a holiday card is a personal thing, you should keep it personal.  Don’t hesitate to send these first class.  It shows that you care enough to spend the few extra cents each.  Remember to include your return address.  Sign each one personally, if you can.  These small touches, while time-consuming, can make a world of difference in how the card is perceived.

You also need to remember that these are your clients, not your friends and family.  Keep it formal.  Also remember to keep it secular unless you explicitly know your client’s faith.

Now, you may be thinking this is all well and good, but how about an e-mail.  NO WAY!  E-mail is a great communication tool for most contacts in today’s world, but something this personal should be kept physical, not electronic.

Most important of all…SEND YOUR HOLIDAY CARDS EARLY!  Make sure they are in the mail by Thanksgiving.  The last thing you want is for the card to show up after the holidays.  It’s also best they not arrive in the rush of mail during the hustle-and-bustle days before Christmas.  Some of our clients choose to send Thanksgiving cards instead of traditional holiday cards as a way to differentiate themselves just for this reason.

One last thing.  Get those orders in early.  There are significant savings for early holiday card orders.  Call us at 800-379-5585, ext. 4371 for more information.
